About this Session

A year ago, you had a feel for how long building something would take.

You could sit in planning and give an estimate with reasonable confidence. Today that confidence is gone. AI has broken estimation in a specific, uncomfortable way: it doesn't make everything faster. It makes some tasks dramatically faster and others unexpectedly slower. And you rarely know which one you're getting until you're already in it.

This is a bottom-up, honest account of building with these tools in production. Drawing on research into AI's real impact on building, Angela introduces the AI Builder Ladder, a framework for understanding where teams currently stand, and walks through concrete examples from her own work: where AI delivered a genuine 10x, and where it delivered a confident, expensive, time-destroying negative.

You'll leave with something rare in the AI conversation: a grounded way to estimate both the effort and the impact of building with AI, and honest language to bring back to your team.
