About this Session

Products are built at record speed yet users still face constant restlessness, anxiety, or deep dependency. A frantic demand for speed and measurability forces technology to default to optimisation over human choice. When we can’t tolerate uncertainty, we overreact, look for immediate answers, and outsource our capacity to think. Many of the systems we build carry those habits, reflecting our own internal urgency back to us. Over time, we become passive. In this session, Alexandra Mateus introduces a paradigm shift in product design, showing that staying in the loop actively preserves our capacity to think. This session aims to move you from automated reactions back to human choice, preserving our capacity to think through a four-word chain: Uncertainty, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Choice. You will walk away with: – A 4-Word roadmap: how to follow the core cognitive pathway from Uncertainty to Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Choice. – Designing for Presence: how to use the "Without Thought" design philosophy to foster focus and effortless interaction over noisy distraction. – Auditing Ethical Debt: how to find the hidden flaws in your product that slowly hijack attention and wear down wellbeing. – The Monday Morning Audit: how to walk away with a practical, 15-minute feature audit so your products give back clarity, control, privacy, space, and the freedom to choose.
